Our story
Sunsafe Workplace was founded by Sam Holt, who has spent his career protecting Australian workers from UV radiation. In 2004, Sam co-founded Skin Patrol — Australia's first mobile skin cancer service. For 17 years, he ran onsite skin check clinics across the country, visiting worksites from metropolitan offices to remote mining operations. Through those years, Sam saw a consistent pattern: companies wanted to do the right thing, but onsite skin checks were expensive, logistically complex, and often impossible to scale. Smaller companies couldn't afford them. Larger companies couldn't coordinate them across dispersed workforces. And the cancers detected onsite could often have been caught earlier if workers had known what to look for. Education and self-awareness were just as important as clinical screening. In 2021, after selling Skin Patrol to long-time team member Dr Alan Jones, Sam set out to solve the problem he'd witnessed for nearly two decades. The result was Sunsafe Workplace: a simple, affordable, scalable skin cancer education program that any Australian workplace could implement, regardless of budget or logistics.
